Paul asks…

Could I get a job in forestry in Hawaii if I got a degree for that field from Penn Foster Online Schools?

I’m very interested in the field of forest and wildlife conservation. I know that Hawaii has careers in forestry. I’m wanting to get my degree online from Penn Foster. I’m wondering if I would be accepted into a position with that. I also plan on moving to Hawaii with my wife within the next 5 years, which is why I want a forestry job there.

Two4Hawaii answers:

According to the US Government’s department of education accreditation database, linked below, Penn Foster College of Scottsdale Arizona is accredited by DTEC as is Penn Foster Career School of Scranton Pennsylvania. So, the school looks legitimate.

You might also take a look at the Peterson’s directory for online education in forestry. Northern Arizona University and Thomas Edison State College also offer it.

A degree is never a guarantee of anything, but if a job requires a specific degree, you can forget about the job if you don’t have it.

Good luck to you!

David asks…

Are there any online courses to help me get a real estate license in Hawaii?

I will be moving to Hawaii in January, and I am looking at jobs in the Property Management field. I see that most would like someone that has a real estate license. I am trying to get a jump-start on that, and take some online courses somewhere or get some information to help me study to get it.
The only thing is about doing the class in person is that I’m in Missouri until January.  I’m just trying to get a head start

Two4Hawaii answers:

I would recommend that you do the class in person. The purpose of the class is to help you pass the exam and I have found the in person class gives better results.

Nancy asks…

why do job applications ask about Massachusetts and Hawaii?

Every time I fill out a job application online or even on paper it always asks me if I am applying in Massachusetts and Hawaii, why does it ask that? What the specific reasons?

Two4Hawaii answers:

Those states have specific employment laws that ban employers from asking potential employees to reveal past criminal records.

Helen asks…

Are statistics and mathematics jobs thinning out in the USA?

I’m from California, but I’m currently in Hawaii and some people who teach here are saying that in the USA those jobs are thinning out. They say our leaders are hiding problems, like reasons for the NASA cuts. I know CA is having lots of problems, but I’m not too familiar with what goes on in other states. I looked online and the prospects seem good right now. Will it continue to be this way, or are they really thinning out?

Two4Hawaii answers:

Jobs are thinning out in some areas, but increasing in others. Nothing stays the same over a decade or two, and there’s always changes. I’ve heard this question before, in fact it was one of the first I answered on Y!A years ago. If you study the history of the USA, there’s never been a time when our country didn’t have difficulties. There’s problems all over the world. If jobs are scarce though, a person who has education and training has a better chance of getting and keeping a job. People will still have need for persons with education and training.

With the problems in the economy, and all that is happening in the news, people are feeling a panic. Businesses that are falling under were already in bad shape, many of them like a house of cards for a long time, and keeping up pretenses. NASA is being targeted for changes, and it’s sad that our tax money is being spent in ways that aren’t really benefiting our own country’s people that much.

It’s a bit disillusioning, but you will find, just like I did, that those with education, skills and training will find work doing what they like.
