Try kayak.com (they compare different airlines), travelzoo, skyauction, smartertravel.com and bookingbuddy.com . The prices are way down this fall from the summer of 2008. I have seen them as low as $450-550 from LA or SF, they were up to $800-900 this summer. Sign up for travelzoo’s and other site’s weekly specials, and they will sometimes have low rates. Keep your eyes open, and you should find a good deal, as you are going in off-season, and the number of people going there is way down in Sept. You can try putting in a lower bid on priceline, and this time of year, they may accept it.

What has happened so far in Hawaii’s independence movement from the U.S.?
I’m doing an assignment on Hawaii moving towards independence from the U.S., and I’ve tried searching all over for this answer but I can’t find it. I found the site on Blogspot for the independence group (Nation of Hawai’i) but they didn’t seem to give a history of their group’s key historical moments…Could someone please find this out for me? Thanks in advance!

Hawaii is a group of islands in the Pacific Ocean with Honolulu, the largest city, as its capital. Having become a US territory in 1900, it was added as the 50th state of the USA in 1959. Oahu, Niihau, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Maui, and Hawaii are the major islands of the state. In addition, it has 124 islets. Oahu is the most populated out of these islands. Many a Hawaii map carries information on roadways, national parks, all islands and reefs, cities, towns and other historical notes of interest. Since Hawaii is primarily a tourist attraction, there are maps to be found on each island, aptly named Hawaii map, Molokai map, Maui map, and so on. Open Road’s Hawaii Guide
Price: $3.98
Each of Hawaii’s main islands – Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Hawaii, Molokai, and Lanai – is covered thoroughly, along with two other islands rarely discussed in guides: once-forbidden Niihau, where Hawaiian is still spoken and where travelers have to rough it; and Kahoolawe, peppered with ancient temples. Glittering Honolulu is fully covered: readers will have ample choice, from glitzy beachfront resorts to budget B&B’s away from the hustle and bustle; from lavish oceanview restaurants to a variety of great, cheap Asian cuisines; and from the main tourist attractions on Oahu like Pearl Harbor, Waikiki Beach, and Diamondhead – but Hawaii Guide goes much further and reveals Oahu’s off the beaten path sights and activities. Each island is covered in full: explore Maui’s lush foliage and gorgeous beaches; the Big Island’s active volcanoes and coffee plantations; Kauai’s beautiful waterfalls and jagged mountains; Molokai’s wildlife preserves; and Lanai’s new resorts set amidst pineapple fields and pristine beaches. Readers are introduced to native Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino cultural festivals and practices throughout the islands.Whether readers prefer to stay in a cozy Bed-and-Breakfast or a splashy resort; hike to a secluded green sand beach (yes, green!) or laze on a palm-edged white sand beach; fly in a glider plane or kiss under a waterfall; sample a casual Hawaiian plate lunch or an oceanside gourmet meal; watch a volcano spew fiery lava at Volcano National Park on the Big Island or ride a mule down a snaking cliffside trail; snorkel in a fish-filled crater, take a plunge in a submarine, or go waterskiing one day and snow skiing the next (yes, snow!).
