Open Road's Hawaii Guide
Open Road’s Hawaii Guide
Price: $3.98
Each of Hawaii’s main islands – Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Hawaii, Molokai, and Lanai – is covered thoroughly, along with two other islands rarely discussed in guides: once-forbidden Niihau, where Hawaiian is still spoken and where travelers have to rough it; and Kahoolawe, peppered with ancient temples. Glittering Honolulu is fully covered: readers will have ample choice, from glitzy beachfront resorts to budget B&B’s away from the hustle and bustle; from lavish oceanview restaurants to a variety of great, cheap Asian cuisines; and from the main tourist attractions on Oahu like Pearl Harbor, Waikiki Beach, and Diamondhead – but Hawaii Guide goes much further and reveals Oahu’s off the beaten path sights and activities. Each island is covered in full: explore Maui’s lush foliage and gorgeous beaches; the Big Island’s active volcanoes and coffee plantations; Kauai’s beautiful waterfalls and jagged mountains; Molokai’s wildlife preserves; and Lanai’s new resorts set amidst pineapple fields and pristine beaches. Readers are introduced to native Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino cultural festivals and practices throughout the islands.Whether readers prefer to stay in a cozy Bed-and-Breakfast or a splashy resort; hike to a secluded green sand beach (yes, green!) or laze on a palm-edged white sand beach; fly in a glider plane or kiss under a waterfall; sample a casual Hawaiian plate lunch or an oceanside gourmet meal; watch a volcano spew fiery lava at Volcano National Park on the Big Island or ride a mule down a snaking cliffside trail; snorkel in a fish-filled crater, take a plunge in a submarine, or go waterskiing one day and snow skiing the next (yes, snow!).
